Initially The University of Sheffield started with just a small pilot of Splunk. It's uses were very easy to see and, impressed with the pilot, we bought the minimum licence. Several months down the line, it had become so popular with the sever admin we started to get close to our licence limit. Then more equipment and services were added, in some cases a logging store, in others a way of monitoring and sending out alerts. There came a point when we needed a licence upgrade due to Splunk’s popularity. Now nearly all logging goes to Splunk offering us the ability to trace faults on equipment over time and compile reports. Satisnet made the procurement and installation of the Splunk solution so easy for us and they also helped make the licence upgrade a painless process now Splunk has become a useful tool in both fault finding and tracking, yet we still felt the full potential of Splunk is not being used.
